Contractor provides a comprehensive wildlife control program. Contractor actively patrols a five mile bubble surrounding the airfield to discourage the presence of birds, particularly large migratory waterfowl. The contractor has actively engaged the airfield manager, flight safety and the Bird Hazard Working Group to effect changes to the airfield habitat to discourage the presence of birds. (Elimination of gravel road reduced annual nighthawk problem; filling in of low/wet spots to discourage birds attracted to water; recommendation to increase grass length on airfield approach virtually eliminating flocking bird species on airfield; recommendation extending times for restricting routine training flights, etc.) Contractor exceeds contract requirement by training aircraft maintenance personnel in the proper collection of bird remains from aircraft and volunteered to enter birdstrike information directly into the USAF database at no additional cost to the Government. Contractor raised the standard for counting birdstrikes and still meets or exceeds the Service Summary performance threshold for numbers of bird strikes. The former chief of flight safety Lt Col Jeffrey Smith stated (paraphrase) that he had thought that our previous wildlife control contractor was great. Birdstrike Control introduced an entirely new paradigm of wildlife/bird control at McConnell AFB.
